  • Water timer leaking

I have spent most of the day trying to install a micro irrigation system - it is pretty much sorted but when I came to my last step of fitting a water timer on to the system the timer just leaked everywhere out of the top of the timer (where it is screwed on to the tap). Is it just that my batteries are not working? There was a washer inside the fitting....

If the timer has a thread to attach it to the tap, wrap the thread on the tap with Plumbers Tape, then screw on the timer. It could also be a pressure problem, in which case you may need to purchase a pressure regulator to fit between the tap and the timer. Without more info, can't really help further.

Dosent sound good....just put the timer on without the hose attached to the bottom and set it to open, so the water runs thru...then close tap (via the timer) and see if the water stops...if it dosent...the tmer is us.

There is normally a rubber O ring at the base of the thread which enables the final seal as the unit is tightened. I wouldn't expect any leakis from a new timer.

Mine didn't leak until I had to attach it to the mains as the water butts have run dry. I am catching the 'leaks' (it comes on twice a day) in a saucer which is watering the basil. Agree with the other comments - plumbers tape might help, I got my OH to tighten it for me in case I was just being a girl :-)
