  • What's in my polytunnel?

Just thought I'd show you what I've managed to do with the tunnel so far (had it up about a month now)

    The interior

We've got cheap growbags in there at the mo, as we're saving up for raised beds and topsoil... in the groabags are tomatoes and some courgettes...

Down the middle are some stuff still in pots - chillis etc and some stuff that I've been hardening off (which is now outside in the sun!)

    More seedlings

Echinacea, lavender, bortlotti beans, cabbages, oregano

    Melon!

One of my 7 melon plants

(P.S. All these were taken about 2 weeks ago, so everything has shot up, and there are MORE growbags!!)

        Sorry

Just wish we didn't have the growbags and had raised beds instead, but with the cost of wood and topsoil, we have to save up for a bit to get them! Have tried to get old scaffold planks etc - they are like gold dust now!

Why do you need raised beds? What's wrong with just planting in the soil?

The soil is very naff where we are, and we're right on the water table. If you dig about 8 inches down you hit sand and water starts to pool in the hole....

Plus, we placed the tunnel on an old paddock, full of couch grass, docks, bindweed and nettles. Even though we stripped it all back, and put ground cover and woodchip down inside the tunnel, I'm having to weed couch grass that is coming through the grond cover! We plan to put raised beds onto of the ground cover eventually, to give us a fightnig chance against the weeds!
