  • Tomatoes - poor fruit set

My tomatoes were bought as plugs from Delfland - 6 different varieties, inlcluding Tigerella, Roma, Piccolo, Velocity, Sungold and one other whose name escapes me.

They went into the greenhouse in April and flowered really well, but the fruit set has been abysmal - out of 15-20 flowers, only 2-3 fruits! I have been 'tickling' the canes occasionally and feeding with seaweed feed - admittedly a little late, as they had 3-4 trusses on by the time I started the feed.

Am i being impatient and will the fruits form now, or am I back to buying from the greengrocer until next season??

    Thanks
    Bluemchen

I read somewhere that watering greenhouse toms from overhead can help with fruit setting.
      Might be worth a try.

Exactly the same as me – If you had asked a month ago it was abysmal but now I will be selling them to the grocer!!
I planted 26 plants thinking I could keep the family in pasata and ketchup for the whole year (Everybody giving me jars)
Now I will meet my needs – Please tell us if things got better?

What about fruits dropping off? What might cause that?

Most of my tom plants have been binned, the toms I managed to save by taking them off the plant are now being binned as well, I think its blight but not sure if its something else. 16 plants so far out of 30 plus, looks like more will be joining them soon.
