  • Tomatoes - In Plastic Greenhouse

I need help please, am a first time tomato grower. I have a walk in plastic greenhouse, inside i have 6 tomato plants grown from seed, these are about two and a half feet tall. Trouble am having they are in flower just a few little ones on each plant. Still no signs of any tomatos, the greenhouse becomes very hot during the day, i have attempted to open the zips fully and when i went back in the evening to close the zips the inside is covered in flies and all sorts ot flying things. I water them each night and feed them as required.
When i open the zips a little the greenhouse has lots and lots of mostiure running down the sides..... thanks

    Hi Northman,
You don't say where you are but at this time of year it should be fine to leave the doors open during the night too which should help a bit with the condensation.

Try some shading over the outside - we have to do this with our small plastic greenhouse as well as our glass ones

Whereabouts are you Northman? You can edit your profile to show your location. You can leave the greenhouse open this time of year, that will help the condensation. Also you don't want it getting too hot - things stop growing over around 25 degrees

Hi northman, we had a smilar prob with toms in a polytunnel, all in pots. We got a lot of condensation and high humidity. This lead led to botrtytus, grey mould thing! We increased ventilation, and have door and windows open at night, Also try to avoid plants touching wet sides of grenhouse if poss. Also removed some bottom leavesto help airflow. Touch wood all this has helped. We are in Leeds.

We also had a fly problem. which was quite big! Ended up buying this yellow sticky card that you hang up. It works but its not very nice!

            Good luck
