  • Glass v Polycarb

What's your preference or experiences. Going to get a GH soon and can get either. No small kids around so not worried about breaks but i like the flexibility of polycarb.

Going to be used for spring seed sowing, summer veg growing (toms, cues etc) and maybe a bit of over wintering stuff like tender bananas so will have gentle heat.

    Many thanks

    Andy

I have a small six by two polycarb greenhouse as well as a standard eight by six glass one, the only problem I have found with the polycarb one is that when it is windy it sounds like you have got Rolf Harris and his wobble board in the garden.

I have glass and am very happy with it! I've seen threads where the polycarb greenhouses have been totally mangled by the wind, whereas glass is heavier. Here's one of many old threads, try the search and see what else you can find.

I think if there are no little kiddies to worry about, I'd definitely go for glass
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Main reason I went for polycarb was local vandals lobbing bricks. If you have no small children, no vandals, then glass is probably the better option.

Glass is less likely to shift in the wind and will be slightly warmer in the winter, but you can get around the 'blowout' problem with the polycarb sheets if you glue them in with mastic. As long as the base is well secured, it should stay put.
