    clips.

the two metal strips are clips which hang from the top rim of the fuel tank and are screwed down through the holes into whatever the heater is sat on.

It isn't particularly secure. Place it where you're unlikely to knock it over or to catch it with clothing. If the chimneys fall over the paraffin soaked wicks become exposed and things can go very pear-shaped, very quickly. (so speaks the rather embarrassed voice of experience, think dark morning, winter coat, bubble-wrap insulation). Obviously almost causing a major incident whilst watering my tomato seedlings made me a little wary, so I bought a Superwarm 10. BIG mistake, true it's nice and stable, but it eats 5 litres of paraffin every 19 hours, they'd have been the most expensive toms on the planet if I'd continued to use that (I used it once...for 19 hours!). The Superwarm 4 is fine though if you're careful with it.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Black smoke will be the wick is too high, lower it slowly until you get an even blue flame ring, there will probably be the odd yellow flicker but don't worry.
To turn off normally you fully lower the wick,if it does not fully self snuff lift the chimney & blow

ahhh thanks ive always been a bit wary of lowering as it goes into the fuel tank .so u keep the wick as low as possible

                      Mick,

With this type of paraffin heater the trick is to go back 1/2 an hour after you first light them and adjust the flame down till you get a nice blue flame. This allows time for everything to warm up, if you adjust the flame and walk away you will find on your return the flame is well to high. Done properly it saves a heck of a lot of paraffin to.
