Dilemma : Advice welcome

Hi all,

Bit of a problem Being a big convert to veg growing

I have a tiny garden about 23' x 17' and I would like a bigger greenhouse, I currently have a smallish lean-to Buy Wall Garden 42: horticultural glass

I really would like something bigger, but am a little reluctant to lose an area of garden. But I am sure this would subside if I got one

How much do you value your greenhouse?

Don't look at it as losing some of your garden, it would be a great asset for growing the likes of Toms & Peppers just to mention a few. I am sure other grapes will be more experienced than me about growing in a greenhouse.

How big is your GH?

8 ft by 6ft.

And it is November and I have a cucumber in there. I'm loathe to pick it as I want to see how long it lasts.

I wouldn't be without mine. It's 6' x 8', polycarb from Norfolk Greenhouses, and was an absolute pain to put together but it's worth it's weight in gold. Big enough to grow loads of tomatoes and chillies this summer, with just enough space to walk (or crawl - the plants went a bit mental this year) to the end where the "bench" is. During the winter I shelter tender plants in there, and start off early sowings for the veg garden in early spring. Plus if the weather's bad you can still feel you're gardening without getting wet.

I have sent for some brochures OH just rolled his eyes and said " I ain't moving all those slabs again" stoopid man this is for him as well whispers I don't even eat much veg

I've had my eye on this one for some time but you have to by polycarb seperate, hope it helps.

I only have a 6'x4' Gardman plastic green house but I've found it invaluable, I'm saving up like mad for a wood lean too green house, call me old fashioned but I do like wood green houses.

I had one when I moved to this house, but took it down and used the ground to extend veggie garden.I don't miss it much.

I do have a potting shed with large windows and live in the far South East though.

I have had a couple of those little plastic ones , but living so near the sea (on a cliff) they blow over, even with paving stones weighing down the bottom shelf

I'd say get as big as you can. You are not losing growing space but you are making that space that you have under glass work harder and for longer. I wouldn't be without mine - it's 6 x 10 ft - and FAR too small!

We bought a wooden greenhouse from Dunster House this summer. It was only 6' by 10' (but our garden's too small for much larger) and overall we're really pleased with it.
It was cheaper than most wooden ones that I could find on line BUT

it arrived in literally hundreds of unsorted and unlabelled pieces of wood on 3 pallets.
It was a very wet day when we had 3 small grandchildren under 5 staying with us, a partyof 30 to host in the garden the next day, and it was puiring with rain. The instructions said to store in a dry place undercover and the garden was covered in bits of gfreenhouse and glass (and over 200 screws and nails) The instructions were not always clear and it took us several days to complete (but did make an interesting conversation topic for the party!)
The final thing is great - very good quality wood and fixings - but avoid buying the staging - about 12 " wide and really not very useful at all. Far more work to do to erect it than we had anticipated and certainly needs at least 2 people to do it.

Looks good and a good price too and could probably get it on the roof rack

OH has said I can have one for Xmas He has realised that we actually need one

May have to wait until spring as the plants in the said area have died down for winter and I also have a very large Nandina to move from a raised bed also in said area.
