  • Need more balls!!

What a beautiful day for getting out there & getting your hands dirty. I decided to start on the protection for next year. Got one side done but ran out of tennis balls. Need to get sewing machine out as netting is only 2mts wide. Anyway once I get it done it will keep the cats of at least.

    BM,

I have loads of poles but had run out of corner fixtures so couldn't complete my cages, I can now, tennis balls!

I know you didn't mean it as a tip but cheers anyway
    Cheers

Its amazing what you can get done in half a day. Managed to sew netting together & in place. The pipe clips were a godsend as they just slide up & down the tubing. Well pleased.

You've just given me an idea Bigmall! The local sports field are chucking out a load of plastic corner flags and I've been wracking my brains for an idea of what to use them for, rather than them being dumped?

I'll just go and liberate them from the skip now!

PS How did you cut the holes in the tennis balls?

Catchy title, BM! One of our lottie holders used ball pit balls which are fairly cheap I think! Possibly easier to cut into than tennis balls as well (slipping stanley knives sprang to mind!)
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

What tubing did you use, and as Snadger asked, how did you make the holes in the balls?

I'm well impressed and will be copying you when I've built my beds as I want to keep dogs, cat, chooks, squirrels and cabbage white off.

yes, I did too: but they aren't UV stable, and disintegrate within a year

Would used small used drinks bottles work, you already have one hole you just need to make some more in the side near the base.

                    I hope thats clear

Thanks for all of the positive comments, much appreciated. The tubing was some 20mm PVC tube I bought about 2 years ago to make hoops over the beds but never got round to using it. The tennis balls were so easy to drill with a 16mm wood drill, just clamped them in workmate. They were a snug fit over the tubing. The tube works out @£1 per 3mts length.

Hey Bigmallly, I've got to admit, your cage looks fantastic.

I wish you'd keep your smart ideas to yourself though - you'll be putting me out of business!
