  • New polytunnel

I am thinking of putting a tunnel on my allotment but the largest I can fit is about 6 x 10 is this space big enough to grow anything or would it be best to keep the space as outdoor space. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Any sort of cover will be more beneficial no matter how small.
I did really well with some homemade cold frames so a poly tunnel should knock spots of that !

You will be surprised how much you can harvest out of a small tunnel. Put a small amount of your different summer produce under cover and it will be ready at least a month earlier than outside. You can put a second crop of potatoes in about July and pick new ones for Xmas. I now have broad beans and early peas about 6" high just waiting for spring to take off and have enough salad leaves to last all winter. Also if you are troubled with carrot fly like I am you can harvest clean carrots almost year round.

The only problem is in a season or 2 is you'll wish it was bigger!...lol

If that's the space you got, that's the space you got. GO FOR IT! Do consider collecting rainwater off it, it is possible.

I have 2 glass greenhouses now and will consider a third if one becomes available. The advantage of having smaller ones, is you can heat only 1 without wasting energy heating a larger space than you need
Never test the depth of the water with both feet

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory....

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
