Has anyone used an Ecobase instead of concrete/slabs for a greenhouse?

  • #2
I know for sure that I've never used one because I don't have a greenhouse but would be interested to learn; what is an Ecobase?
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Snadger, where did you get the sleepers from they're like gold dust. My neighbour has used ecobase to form a driveway from the road to their house (set about 20m from the road), they drive their works vans across. I got Googling and found the website for ecobase - Eco Base and found it was suitable for greenhouses. I don't how to put links in, just type the URL. Next year I may (fingers crossed) have a bit more land and was thinking another greenhouse (saving up my vouchers already) and I sooooo hate laying slabs, so is ecobase an alternative?

We have loads of that stuff lying around in heaps at work!

It was used for making hardstanding areas and filled with soil and Ryegrass seed.
Often used at picnic sites for overflow carparking as the grass can grow through it and it isn't as unsightly as tarmac!

I don't know if it's expensive (I hope not). My neighbours haven't used pea gravel but have infilled with soil. Seriously hard wearing.

Your neighbour as it, do you know how long they have had it down?

The neighbours have had it down for nearly 10 years and it still looks new (well newish). It has to be cheaper than slabs - unless you can get the slabs for free. My neighbour is a good Scotsman - doesn't like wasting money

I've got quite a few slabs for free off good old freecycle, but would rather use them for paths and look at alternative greenhouse bases, plus this looks easier to put down.

Sounds good, I'm after a base for our greenhouse, was dreading laying proper foundations and then slabbing the area - I'll give them a bell and let you know what they say.

Guess we'll be looking at an 8x6 greenhouse, so will see what they say for around 10x8 for the base, or dependingon how large the sections on whatever they recommend.

Just got a price for an 8x6 base - £130 inc delivery, vat, membrane, and locking pins..

They work on around £6.50 per "grid" excluding the membrane, pins, and delivery etc..

hope that helps - think I'll order some after i've worked out how much gravel I need.
