I've had a cupboard style 'greenhouse' for years. It has an aluminium frame and plastic panels. It must be 10yrs old or so by now cos my parents got it for me when I was a kid. It's about 4' wide, a seed tray deep and the floor plus two levels high. Two sliding doors at the front. It's sat on a wooden shelf (storage crate for pots underneath) and bolted to the wall.

I've retaped the joints a few times and I replaced a couple of the plastic panels last year as they were getting a bit cloudy and I had to replace a few planks of wood it is sat on where they had rotted but the greenhouse itself is going strong.

I would definitely say it was worth paying that little bit extra rather than replacing plastic ones frequently.

I also wouldn't bother with the 'walk in' versions, I don't think you gain much space if you actually leave room to walk in and get stuff at the back.

I can see that they sell replacement covers for the smaller mini greenhouses but have yet to see any on sale for the walk-in greenhouses......

I find it pretty unlikely that they would only sell these in GC's and no-where online.

Of course I will stand corrected if proven otherwise....... :-)

Is that a Gardman cover listed? The text says its for a kingfisher unit.

My point is that Gardman do not sell replacement covers for their own walk-in greenhouses although I accept you may be able to find other makes that might fit.

However it's a pretty sad indictment of Gardman that they do not sell these for their own product. If they can do it for their smaller tiered greenhouses then why not for the larger walk-in greenhouses? Especially considering that it's the larger covers that will most likely split due to the bigger area of exposure to the elements and greater stress this will bring.

Anyhoo we could spend all day debating this.

If I was to buy on of these things then I'd steer clear of Gardman and go for either Wilko's or Nortene.

I used a small plastic one last year , worked fine for me tied it down well and placed large growbag on top shelf . I got a bigger one this year only £30 wilkinsons, it has guy ropes with it. mine is on the patio next to a S/W facing wall so very hot and sheltered.
I left my small one out all winter it would have been fine if i hadn't pierced it with knife lol, have seen a cover for about a fiver in Wilkinsons they do 2 the clear plastic one a quid cheaper and the stronger one so getting a new cover .
They are good if you are just starting out and you dont want to spend a lot of money plus very safe if you have young kids. Cant see them on their website tho which is a pity. I cant wait to get my new one up and running, it keeps me happy and thats what growing your own is all about .

I've just picked up my replacement cover for my walk-in greenhouse - 14 pounds in Homebase. The greenhouse was really good last year although I did spend most of the evenings rescuing hoverflies/bees that had gone in for a nose and flown to the roof and couldn't work out where the door was again The thing I would completely agree on (and I've read it on several reviews online too) is that the covers do rip on them when the lovely neighbourhood (and most annoyingly, my own) cats walk across them! We came home one evening to find the roof of ours slashed from one side to the other in two places and so this year I will be putting some chicken wire type frame under the roof covering to give it a little more strength when the local fur-balls decide to try and sun themselves on it.

I got mine about two weeks ago from Morrisons, £25 and it's got guy ropes and one built-in shelf. The whole thing is about 6'x4' I think.

It's fine so far, but the shelf doesn't hold much weight as it's only held on by flimsy clips, but I solved that problem by using cable ties holding it to the pole. If you do that though if you cut the ends off the cable ties with a stanley knife. You may accidentally slice through the plastic.

Although only an idiot would do that. And yes, this idiot did just that. On the last tie to cut as well! I've stuck it over with electrical tape both sides.
