How do I use bottle cloches?

I mean anything that is white to let the light through, and with small enough holes to keep the cold out.....enviromesh is one type [expensive but lasts ages]; but I use some of that for small patches and some of Ikea's white net curtains like these IKEA | Window textiles | Curtains | LILL | Pair of curtains for larger patches....

I left lots of white netting on crops all winter, and the temp difference under the netting, even in the snow, was significant

I just had a peep under my green debris netting (shook the snow off first) and underneath the soil is looking nice but now the weeds are growing

I've got some black netting panels what you hang upto windows to keep out flies would they be any good in for making cloches or does it have to be white ?
