How do I use bottle cloches?

    I mean anything that is white to let the light through, and with small enough holes to keep the cold out.....enviromesh is one type [expensive but lasts ages]; but I use some of that for small patches and some of Ikea's white net curtains like these IKEA | Window textiles | Curtains | LILL | Pair of curtains for larger patches....

          I've got some black netting panels what you hang upto windows to keep out flies would they be any good in for making cloches or does it have to be white ?
          Location....East Midlands.
