  • Greenhouse choice for school

I’ve been given the go ahead (and the funds ) to purchase a greenhouse for DS’s school. We don’t have a huge amount of space so I’m probably looking at approx 8 x 10 feet max. Glass has been ruled out because of the adjoining football pitch, and although I’m drawn to polycarbon (like my own) I’m wondering if perhaps a small polytunnel would be a suitable. The only drawback I see is perhaps having to replace the cover in five years. Am I right?

Do any of you grapes out there have greenhouses/polytunnels at your schools? If so what works for you and why?

    Thanks.

    Hi

A polycarbonate greenhouse might be easier to ventilate automatically during holidays when there may not be staff and pupils on site as much.

I would imagine it would be easier to vandalise a polytunnel. Not implying any of your children would do such a thing, of course, but it might be something you have to take into consideration.

Thanks Sindy. Ventilation has been one of my concerns. Vandalism is quite another matter!! Touch wood we don't have any problems with this but you never know. I'm hoping to have a look at a couple of tunnels this week to get a better idea of what's involved. Could be going back to plan A if I can get someone to build it for me!
