Can anyone tell me please if it matters which way the door is facing when putting up a greenhouse-I read that the ridge should go north to south and the door face south, any help/comments gratefully received

It is confusing isn't it?
I don't honestly know- but you're more likely to get sun scorch from a south , S/W facing side- and most cold prevailing winds tend to be from the N/E which you wouldn't want pounding at the door.
I suppose following that logic, I'd put the door at the S or S/W end.
( but then - there's probably another reason for N/S!)

Position
It is important that as much light as possible enters the greenhouse, therefore consideration as to the position of the structure is required. Tall trees, boundary fences and walls can create shadows, obstructing light, so thought is required as to how much sunlight is available all year round, not just the summer months. A greenhouse facing south is ideal if it is a lean-to structure against a wall. However, free-standing, independent structures should be placed east – west in order to avoid the lattice blind effect on conventional apex structures and gain maximum sunlight during the winter and spring.Comment

Mine is placed the only way it would fit . Which is with the ridge N-S and the door facing N. Too much shading from the garage if it was E-W and if the door was facing south I wouldn't be able to get in it.

Thanks for all your help, it would suit me better (because of a short fence) to have the door facing north, and mostly we have our worst weather coming up from the south strangely enough, so I will probably do what seems best, thanks again (ps. I havent yet managed to buy one as yet but the base is there just waiting!)Comment

same.. my new GH has been delivered and i am considering options to set it up and the best way so far is ... to have it north-south along side the fence
