im sure someone has asked about this before but i didnt fancy going back through all the old threads. i already have an 8 by 6 greenhouse but have been offered another one of the same size for free. the one i currently have isnt in the best spot and gets quite a lot of shade in one end. i will have to move/disguard plants to fit in a new one but im not sure what the best place is for one to get the best light etc.

Sorry Leona couldn't resist.
If you look in all the Books they will always tell you in full sun with the ridge running East/West that way you get maximun sunlight on the long side, this is OK on winter if you want to grow stuff in there but if it's empty It doesn't matter that much.
Because of the size of my garden (it's only 13ft wide but 200ft long!!)I don't have a choice but to have the big greenhouse running North/South but it still gets to over 100F in there without any bother in the winter. I wouldn't get too hung up on it really but best to avoid deep shade if possible but what i's do in your case is site the potting bench in th eshady corner & let the plants have the rest

Who has the ideal site? Any greenhouse is better than none. If you have a choice of site aim for one that gets as much sunlight as possible (although you will then have to shade in the summer)Comment

yeh, what im looking for is the ideal position then i will try to find as close to it as poss in my garden.Comment

I don't think there is an ideal position, as it will always be a question of ideal for what? A position that gives you maximum summer sunshine , might not give you good winter sunshine when the sun is lower in the sky. And do you want the sun blazing in all summer. Seems a bit non commital but I think you have to work out what you want this greenhouse for, and work the position out from there.

North-south as best, 'cos that alignment picks up maximum sunlight morning and evening, pluse deflects some during the midday hours over the peak of summer - angle of roof and area exposed to suns rays in straight line.
Perhaps, we are each picking our books by alignment.
