Was trying to do some research myself on heating for next winter. Lost a lot of my plants over the "cold snap" we had this year. I came across this How to Build and Use a Sawdust Stove and thought that it might allow for some frost protection. Anyone any experience and/or comments on this method ??Gardening blog http://ploughyofurrow.blogspot.co.uk

I don't heat mine at all, but then I don't try to keep tender plants in it all winter.

My 8x6 is 60 metres away from the house. I heat by paraffin overnight from March through mid April and then by frost or not. I use a blue paraffin heater. 5 litres a week * 8 weeks £45.- £55..depending on price.
Electricity would save half that but installation (DIY so cheap) would be £150-£300 as wring run is 70 metres plus...
Reckon it is uneconomic to continue as is so thinking of better way . A large greenhouse by paraffin is very expensive .
I tried gas but even more expensive than paraffin..Last edited by Madasafish; 09-05-2010, 07:43 PM.
