  • heated propagater...hot hot hot!!

Up until now my new heated propagater has been fab and my veg has had a flying start. It is in my greenhouse and now things are beginning to fry.
Unfortunately I am out during the day and can't always monitor how hot things are getting. I moved it to under the staging today and could uncover the lid if the forcast is for sun, but I am concerned that this will reduce the humidity. Other than covering it completely?? what do other people do when it starts to warm up outside please?

Don't know how big your propagater is but mine is on the kitchen windowsill. I really only use it for things that need starting early, when it is still cold outside. I would suggest you either bring the prop indoors or just germinate things in trays in your greehouse

I agree with FionaH that you should start to get your seed to germinate with a heated propagator and as soon as they poke through the surface, move them to an unheated propagater during the day. You my still need to put them in a heated one at night.

You need to try and harden off the seedlings ASAP or else they will get leggy and die.

Seeds in the propagator, seedlings in the greenhouse

I was intending to take them out as soon as they gerninated. Unfortunately the propagater is too big to fit in the house...small cottage with a lack of windowsills.
          thank you for your help.

I would have thought at this time of year you wouldn't need a heated prop. Mines cleaned & put away till next year. Any sowing is now done in trays in the greenhouse.
