What can I use for a ..........

wick. I have bought a roll of capillary matting and lined my trays in the GH .
Now I'm thinking if I had some sort of wick I could suspend it into a bucket of water and hopefully I would only have to fill the bucket up as needed.
Any thoughts please ?

You might find something useful in there. At very least there'd be less loss through evaporation with the wick enclosed.

I'd already inspected this thanks anyway, but I've got long trays which I think are meant for growbags but I'm standing large pots on them for aubergines, toms and peppers.

I've had a go this afternoon with some capillary matting, a tray and a water container, it worked fine at first but my tray has a ribbed base which meant the channels filled up with water once the matting was wet.

and I think that would water log my plants so it looks like I need to buy a flat tray instead.
