  • Please help, new to greenhouse!!

    Hi

I have my grandads greenhouse, wanted to keep it in the family, after some fantastic advice on here we have put it on paving slabs, patio which was already there.

Anyway i now have lots of bits and bobs in it, including three grow bags, one with tomatoes in, one with Aubergines in and the other with Cucumbers in. I am really really hoping a few of you on here may have photos to help me please!! I dont have a clue how to train them up, what i am doing with them or anything! I hope someone can please help me, thank you.

    Hi Sue,

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along in a minute, but I know that with tomatoes it depends on what type they are. If you name the varieties you're growing, I'm sure someone will give you precise instructions.

    Best of luck!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day

You may find that grow bags are too shallow and dry out too quickly. Are you able to repot your tomatoes into deeper pots (then plant them in holes cut in the grow bags).

You support your toms with canes (tie on with string) or on strings attached to the greenhouse roof

And the same with cucumbers. Let them climb up the cane (you can wind string around it first) Attach the string to the greenhouse roof and then they will climb up and over. I take my string to the cente bar (from the side of the greenhouse where the tubs are) and stop it there.
It depends how big your greenhouse is.
Mine is only a little 'un of 6 x 6. If you have bigger than that you can afford the room to spread them out a bit.
Can't help with aubergines - sorry -don't grow them.

As T.S says, I also tie my toms to canes & string. The string is attached to wires on the top of GH & are buried in the pots. I suppose the string could be put under the pot instead. See pics.

Aubs need a cane for support, shorter than the toms tho' cos you are meant to pinch out the tops when they about 12"tall.
