  • Tropf Blumatauto watering

Hi there everybody, 1st time I've asked a question, has anyone tried the Tropf Blumat auto watering system sold by two wests & elliott. I've searched this site and only found 1 mention [Digger Don] it sounds ideal for holiday times as it senses the humidity of the compost in individual pots / growbags and waters to suit, it's expandable,& it'll work off low pressure [water tank 3 foot high unlike most timers which need mains pressure] or mains, is this auto watering nirvana or just a pipe dream? i.e. is it reliable and easy to set up or will I come back to a greenhouse full of tumbleweed or duckweed. There must be someone out there who'se tried this.

I've not used that system AoS but just out of interest I set up a gravity system as in the link below, went on holiday for 2 weeks & the container was still half full. I've also enclosed some updated pics taken today. I changed the plastic box as I could not stop the first one leaking but as you can see the drip system seems to have worked. The toms may not be as tall as some but I'm pleased with the experiment so far. Please bear in mind that the drips are at approx 30 sec to 1 minute interval so it is not a continuous flow of water.

Looks interesting BM and would be perfect for saving you going down the lottie every day if the weather outside's consistent. But what I like about the Tropf system is it'll water to suit the conditions whereas yours will supply the same amount of water regardless. On the plus side yours looks nice and cheap and the Tropf one starts from 50 Quid

Its 6 & 2 3's AoS, you can either choose to have a constant flow irrespective of conditions or the added benefit of adjustable water flow due to change in temperature.
