  • Polytunnel ventilation help

    Hi,
We've just got our 12' x 32' polytunnel up and running. The doors at each end are covered in polythene and even when they are open during the day it is spectacularly hot in there! Plants seem happy so far but worried if away for weekend we could end up with "baked" plants if doors left closed or nibbled plants if left open. Any ideas for a bit of ventilation or am I being over cautious?
    Thanks

Why not leave the doors open, and get some insect netting to hang in the door openings?

Is there anyway you can glue some netting onto the outsides of the tunnel then once dried cut away the polythene behind the netting providing ventilation. Only an idea as I have never had one.

when we built our grow barn,we made a stable door type door,as in 2 halves, when it's realy hot the top half is left open day & night,in addition it has net vent windows in the apex ends,or in your case,if you were to leave the doors open,is there a way you could fix come ply wood for example,on the bottom half to keep out larger preditors, netting ok,but will not let any pollinator in,and the larger preditor can rip it down,
we have badgers and foxes on our site, and to date, works well,we still tend to get a little green on the soil, but reguar hoeing keeps it good,in my case it could be over watering,

          Off to get netting

          Thanks everyone,
Going to attempt some kind of bunny proof stable door contraption this afternoon. Hopefully will keep elderly border collie who likes to lie on warm soil out too.

Most of the polytunnels on our site have the bottom metre of the sides made with debris netting. Roll down flaps of polythene are then used when ventilation ISN'T required!
