  • Hurrah my greenhouse is up !!

    Hi All
Had to tell someone (people I work with think Ive lost the plot !!) that my plastic greenhouse is now up and looking good.
To keep it safe the love of my life has drilled down into the concrete, through the poles and bolted it to the ground. Seems very stable so heres hoping.
Ive check ed the temperature over the weekend and it averages 5 degrees in daytime which I think is OK but if not please let me know.
I have a heater too if its too cold. Ive also got some staging in here and its really sweet and home from home (OH calls it my wendy house )
To start with Im going to plant some early carrots and salad mix in small tubs to see how they go.
Any further advice gladly welcomed. I intend to use the G house for toms, cucumbers and melons over summer.

    Sam

Hi Sam, I am glad you have got the greenhouse finished.. How many hours today have you just stood in it

Well I am hoping to have mine finished by the end of the weekend but will see how the weather is as I have been mad already tonight after work, out in the rain and working in artificial light.. I hope it is worth it

Mine was finished at the end of august, so I know how it feels! Have my morning cuppa there whenever I can, even if I have to dodge the rain getting out there! NOt much growing in it yet, but there will be soon.
Alan - it is definately worth it!

                    Its started already !!

                    Hi all
Thanks for all your good wishes and messages (God its a bit like having a baby )
Anyway, finished work early yesterday (did have a dentist app but they cancelled I just forgot to tell work that
Anyway, got home, still light so off I set - result - 3 containers in the wendy house, 1 mint, 1 carrots, 1 salad leaf mix. Plus my new blueberry in its new pot and position and my indoor prop with toms, peppers, peas, pansys, lobelia and sweet peas. Only a few of each of the above to see if they take then I can start some more!
It had to be done my green fingers were itching
Also sorted out a storage box in the g house with feeds, fertilisers and labels, tools etc
Heres hoping they all take, I'll keep you all informed but any tips welcome.

                    Sam

Mine arrived from the suppliers last friday, spent all day sunday bending over bolting it together. Now am in agony when i walk and i have only got the gable ends and sides made up.

Am I right in thinking i cannot cut toughened glass.? Has it got to be cut by a specialist..? If so I cannot fit my extra roof vent.!

I am working all weekend so cannot work on it. Should I throw a sickie on a sunny day next week.??

                          Toughened glass.

You are right, talk to your local glass shop.

                            cloche glass or plastic?

Am very new to gardening and this forum.

The house I recently bought has an old greenhouse, the glass has been replaced by corregated plastic but all the panes of glass seem to be in the shed.

Why would the people before me replaced the glass with plastic (should it be put back as I am sure it would look better) and I was thinking of making some protective cloche (s)for my raised beds - should I use the spare glass or plastic?

                            thanks
