  • How to net a blowaway greenhouse?

I've been wondering how to stop birds going into my blowaway greenhouse when I have the door fully open in the summer.

I've thought of netting attached to pipe lagging, which would then fit over the frame above the door, but I'd need to attach something heavy to the bottom to hold it down.

Does anybody have any better ideas or experiences?

    Hi,

You could get a roll of lead from an Aquatic shop and sew it in a seam at the bottom, which should hold it down.

    Hope this helps

How about one of those beaded door curtain thingies.

I hook a length of soft drape small holed netting from the inside of the doorframe on my greenhouse, with the extra netting on the inside resting on the floor. I then place a wooden board across the bottom of the door. I do this deliberately because several years ago I used large holed plastic netting (the pigeon kind) to stop pests getting in when I was on holiday.
When I came back I found that a hedgehog had become entangled in the large mesh and had died in what I can only describe as horrific circumstances. I had to cut his body from the netting and it was awful and I cried for a week at the cruelty I had inflicted.
I will NEVER use that kind of netting again on a greenhouse.

Do birds really go in your blowaway?

I'd have thought it was too claustrophobic for them

My mum used to sow coins in her curtains to get them to hang nice and straight.

Some good suggestions, I'll have a muse, although I have no idea who on earth sells those door bead curtains any more! ;o)

Sad story about the hedgehog, Sanjo. How upsetting.

Two Sheds, I've never seen them, but on a gardening programme or in a magazine, it was one of the jobs for the month. Specifically, proper greenhouses but I assumed that if birds go into a real greenhouse, they'd go into a blowaway one as well.

Baby birds will sometimes get trapped in greenhouses, and greedy ones in fruit cages.

I doubt very much that they'd venture into a blowaway though: the flapping plastic would frighten them.
