Is it possible to grow Spanish Onions in a greenhouse?
I've tried one this year and it is going well but I think it may be a fluke. We have a lot of problems with Allium Leaf miner on our plot and I was thinking they may be more protected in the greenhouse.
    Any thoughts?

Thats what I thought but the one I planted as an experiment has done really well....I know a bloke who grows prize leeks and he has them in the greenhouse and was thinking onions might grow there as well?

I really don't think onions do well in greenhouses, apart from sowing seed very early in the year.

I have about 50 (from sets) growing in my tunnel and they are nearly ready to harvest - and they are miles ahead of the outdoor ones which were planted at the same time

Hi Rat,, what variety are they and when did you plant them?

F1 Corrado sets from Moles Seeds. They were planted sometime in April I think(need to check my diary for exactly when). I did expect some to bolt but that hasn't been a problem at all.

Yeah, I guess. Everything in the greenhouse dries out so quickly though, even the tomatoes which are in 7 gallon tubs

Thanks Ratty.....thought I was going potty there. Mine is planted into the ground in the greenhouse and perhaps that makes a difference as it doesn't dry out as much as in pots.
