What advantage, apart from colour, does one get with powder coating? (I'm not the Queen, honest.) It's just that I noticed that when looking at lovely new greenhouses, it adds about 300 squids to the price - is it really worth it???

Apart from the aesthetic appeal of a colour, it will add some protection from the elements and make it easier to keep clean. If you think that's worth three hundred squid, go for it. Me, so long as it's functional I'm happy. My garden greenhouse is alongside a fence, has hardboard sides on that side of the greenhouse as that side gets no sun until evening when the sun hits the roof, two small triangular panes also now hardboard, and a cracked door pane held together with silver duct tape. But it works and works well !Rat

Personally i wouldn't bother - unless you really don't like the aluminium look.
SW - I'm interested in how the powder coating helps keep it clean? I wouldn't have thought it made a difference to the ease of cleanliness, but i'm willing to be proven wrong! In terms of protection from the elements - all my greenhouse frame is aluminium, as are the bolts so nothing will rust in the weather anyway

My greenhouse is aluminium too, and although it doesn't rust, the metal does weather and stain a little with age. Powder coating keeps it looking pristine.Rat

It's really only cosmetic. Whilst Aluminium Oxide doesn't look good it is inert & stops further corrosion. It just depends if you want your greenhouse coloured or not.
Eros is made from Aluminiun and hasn't corroded when compared to bronze or Iron statues.ntg
Never be afraid to try something new.

Powder coating works by passing an + electrical currrent through the metal then spraying a -charged powder over it. this causes it t stick then you bake it.
You then get a very smooth shiny water proof coating hard in lots of colours. Its like chrome.ing.
Because it is so smooth you can just spray it clean.My phone has more Processing power than the Computers NASA used to fake the Moon LandingsComment

Well I wanted a green greenhouse but like many couldn't justufy the cost. In the end I picked up a second hand aluminium for a bargain. I still wanted it green so once I built the frame and before I fitted the glass I bought a can of metal paint (like Hammerite) and painted it. It looks great even up close and if I get any scratches I can just touch up. Also as my green house backs into a corner I only painted the sides I can see which saved time and effort. That was a year ago now and only minor peeling of paint after the winter. 5 mins of touch up and it will be good as new. Totally worth the effort in my opinion.Comment
