Does anyone remember a programme within the last couple of years showing a greenhouse on a community garden that used solar energy and a whole range of ecofriendly means for heating a greenhouse? I'm trying to get ideas for next year.

Nope , sorry I don't recall it.Trouble with solar is that it needs some sun and I can't recall too much of that recently.

Not much sun here either, Burnie. The greenhouse had a eco-friendly heating system (bit of a bodge job, put together by themselves) which is what I'm really interested in. This is so going to bug me

He made a heat store in his greenhouse IIRC - on the series 'It isn't easy being green' perhaps?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

He did "it's not easy being green" where they did build a greenhouse and made a heat sink in the floor from recycled glass.
There was (or at least used to be) a decent thread or three about it on their website's forum.

The forum and website have changed alot since I've been on it. The forum is now here.

Looks like it still has the same sort of info.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Beechgrove Garden did a comparison with a system they devised and set up as a comparison with standard heating and it was much cheaper. Sorry can't remember the exact details but might be on their website as they generally do fact sheets for their programmes and have an archive of them - The Beechgrove Garden - Produced by Tern Television- Beechgrove Garden

Programme was Beechgrove as I've never seen the Dickie Strawbridge programme (time to start searching the linkies provided - ta). Do remember seeing Dickie Strawbridge on Scrapheap Challenge with his brothers. Have searched Beechgrove's site but can't find what I'm looking for - would help if I knew exactly what I'm looking for

I saw a gardening program last autum, where they were setting up a GSHP using a beer cooler in one greenhouse and an electric heater in another.
Been looking for it ever since and have now found some info on the Beechgrove site, under problem corner.

it was our local garden at Seil Island hall near Oban. My kids planted some trees for it!

As far as I can remember, Beachgrove used a beer cooler as a heat pump, taking the heat from the ground outside the greenhouse by the use of buried pipes.

Creag, you're a star I thought the community garden was near Oban but just wasn't sure. So is the garden open to the public so I can get (pinch) some ideas?

The garden is open and you can find it right beside the Community hall on Seil about 25 mins drive from Oban. You may want to contact the gardeners themselves to get access to the greenhouse and ask questions and you could do this by phoning the main hall number and they will be able to help
