  • Hot Beds

I have access to a large amount of horse poo which is very "fresh". Has anyone had experience of constructing hot beds for raising vegies ?

Yup. I tried it last year, got early lettuce. Not sure I did it properly tho, so I wouldn't advise you.

Construct a frame, (or utilise whatever you've got). Stack horse poo in it, and cover with garden soil to a depth of about a foot. Leave to settle a bit, if you can. The idea is the poo starts to decompose, generating heat, which warms the soil above and acts as a sort of heated propagator. If you can cover it with plastic or glass, so much the better. Do let us know how you get on.
