  • My new Greenhouse is finished

    IT'S UP

After putting the frame together two weeks ago, I had the time to finish of the "glazing", door, floor and finishing.

I decided to lay some concrete paving slabs on the floor as the base it rested on was uneven and not good quality. I laid them on a layer of sand to level it and then cemented between the joints. The slabs rest on the greenhouse base to keep it secure.

I have attached an autovent (it seems to work by magic as there are no wires ) and have a louvre window to install but I am going to wait until next year for that.

It was hard work and the instructions were not always clear, but a bit of thought and some trial and error it went together perfectly.

TIP : If anyone else buy the Gardman 8' X 6' Aluminium Greenhouse, I recommend you have spare nuts and bolts ready as they supply just enough to complete the job and they had a habit of shearing off if you tighten them only slighty

I even gave the shed a lick of paint too

Thanks Hans Mum, have you had any problems with it?

I'm looking forward to planting, propagating and pottering.

Looks good and a nice paving job, very smart.

I've inherited a greenhouse from my other half's parents. It was missing a lot of glass, was covered in grime and full of weed, but with a bit of scrubbing and a pressure washer it has come up alright. Aluminium frame so nothing wrong with that, and I want poly glazing anyway so the glass wasn't an issue either.

It's currently in bits having dismantled it last weekend, just need to get round to levelling a spot off in the garden, building the base and putting it up. It won't win any awards but it's functionality I'm interested in so I'm really looking forward to getting it built.

            Congratulations!!!
I got mine back in March and I absolutely LOVE it!!! It has made such a difference to our growing, not least of all protecting things from the 'grim' that can sometimes be the weather 'up north'... Apart from starting off all manor of things, I have used it as an insurance policy this year - growing a selection of things inside as well as out to maximise potential yield... IT WORKED!!!
It doubles as a potting shed too and I have a little seating spot in there too... many a glass of wine....
My poor olive tree is absolutely loving it - poor thing had struggled in the outside... and I got a grape vine this year... no grapes as yet but in future years I expect to be bottling our own wine??!!!
what are you going to grow in yours???

I also have exactly the same one & has been worth every penny. Tip: Put extra w clips round the windows if you have any spare, they can blow a bit.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and tips. I do have some clips left over so will add some where they are needed.

I have some ideas about what I am going to grow but I am going to wait to see how it all pans out. I will definately be using it to start off my seedlings and then try and grow some toms (cooking ones as I am not a raw tomato lover - I try them every year in the hope I have developed the taste, but not yet!!), peppers, cucs and I have some spuds for Christmas that I will move in there when the temperature drops.

I have a comfy chair in my shed I sit in with a cold beer and "watch my veg grow". I think I could put another chair in my GH for those rainy days and lazy days.

I am soooooo pleased with it.

Brilliant stuff and loving the photos. Ashamed to say that mine is still in pieces all over the garden after MANY weeks. Hopefully the pangs of jealousy I'm feeling now will inspire me into getting the job done asap.
