Sounds logical, yes - to create that "seal" for the water to run over. I'll go check mine again in a sec as I need to do a bit of work in there - I'll take a pic from the outside too in daylight.

Aaaaghhh...had a good look this afternoon and I've got a horrible feeling that if I move the cross-strut up enough so the bottom of the vent overlaps....the lower sheet of polycarbonate won't be big enough to fill the space from the cross-strut to the gutter.
That's my lot for now, Chris, I'll post in a fortnight when I get back.

Oops, sorry I forgot to take pictures today - got carried away outside. Ok - well enjoy cuba
My thoughts now, after looking earlier are probably the strut is in the wrong way (what's the cross sectional view of it like? Mine is lipped over the lower pane of glass)
in this sort of fashion:
=====]+++++
]__ is the cross strut.
++++ is the vent sitting on top of the strut
The vent then sits on the lower ____ part of the cross strut.

Hola Chris! (Cuba was very sunny!)
OK = I've just moved the strut up so the bottom edge of the vent rests on it.*
There is obviously something very wrong in the way I've assembled the vent as it doesn't sit flush on the side struts
this is the vent( part open) seen from the side
the vent closed seen from above / side (there's no polycarbonate in the space below)
vent seen from inside
'hinge' / top of vent /seen from inside
These are hi def pics so hopefully you can enlarge and compare with yours!
I think the first one showing my vent from the side will show where I've gone wrong?
tu amigo Richard
PS
How deep (inches - mines 13") is the piece of polycarbonate that fills the gap from the vent cross strut to the gutter?

Hrm.. I'll have to take a look at mine and take a photo from the side angle to compare - Are the bolts holding it slightly proud near the top end?
Are you able to scan the instructions in for the opener? Have you re-built it yet? It may be worth having a go at rebuilding it, but firstly reading, and re-reading the instructions.. honestly it took me a few attempts to get the openers, AND the door right (as you'll probably find in this forum -- it was a few months after before I noticed that my door was completely in wrong ).
Can't have a look now as just off to bed and it's throwing it down outside! Well I could but it'd mean getting dressed again heh.
Glad cuba had decent weather for you!

Thanks for getting back Chris...
...none of the bolts are causing it to stand proud, I've read and re-read the instructions from 'tinternet but can't see where I've gone wrong (and they're not crystal clear photos in the first place)
I may advertise on here asking for someone in South London near me to let me come along and have a look!

(Cuba was good as one would expect)
