New greenhouse

Hi all,

I have 2 old decrepid (but do the job!) greenhouses at the lottie. We have just moved into a new house and OH says I can have a greenhouse in the garden, well, bought a 6x8 on ebay yesterday!

Question: I am putting it on a patio which has been down for years, however the slabs on one side turn up slightly (i mean only just outside the middle bit on a spirit level). Will this be ok to put the greenhouse onto?

My slabs sloped downwards slightly ... I had a one inch gap to fill with cement on one side

So is it just as easy as putting the greenhouse on the base and then filling in the gaps?

Think i'll start emailing you two sheds instead of putting a question up! lol

You're lucky to have an established patio to put it on - so just go ahead.... unless it looks like a ski ramp!

My Top Tip is to work out where you want to put the rainwater butts to catch the water from the roof gutters so you erect the GH on the correct slope.....there's always a slope to any patio!!

It is much easier to glaze a greenhouse if it is level and square so bear that in mind.

thanks all, the patio is about bang on level, although at one edge the slabs curve upwards slightly, I don't think it will make too much of a difference!
I am slowly creating a mini lottie at the top of the garden! , first I wasn't allowed the chucks at home, then built them a lovely run so was allowed!
The top of the garden holds water terrible, so suggested raised beds, ready for veg not flowers!
And finally, we won't use that bit of patio next to the chucks will we as we have another next to the house, may aswell put a GH on it!

Twin wall / polycarbonate etc is the best for heat insulation but because it's weightless and a bit flexible you really must anchor the GH and use extra fixative to hold the sheets in place.

After todays winds, I would like to echo RB's post. Besides putting extra 'w' clips in, today I also put 3 lengths of cane per pane to stop them blowing out.......again. One at the top, bottom & middle, not pretty to look at but does the job.

GH - If you have not yet put your new greenhouse up, you may wish to consider building it on blocks, giving it extra height & secure anchoring points.
