Himself has offered to buy me a UPVC glazed greenhouse, 6' x 2' x 6' for the side of the house (space is very limited). It's from Norfolk Greenhouses an would be instead of blowaways. What do you think? It's £99.

FF it looks like the Tesco one is the same thing, its had mixed reviews but I do think it would be better than a blowaway.

FF,
I don't know how handy hubby is But before I had my GH I built something of a similar size using studwork timber (untreated) about £2 for 2.4 meters and clear PVCu corrugated roofing sheet 660m x 2.4mtrs £5.95. It lasted for 8 years and was still good when I took it down. If you work out you only have to glaze the two sides, roof and front it may well work for you.

I was wondering about one of Norfolk Greenhouses 'lean-to' type greenhouse, the smaller one that's about £59, as I only have a zip up plastic one but I'm not sure it looks very sturdy. The only decent ones seem to cost a fortune though so I'm going to keep looking around for now.Into every life a little rain must fall.

Sue,
If you mean the plant house my friend has one the basic construction is OK. It twin wall polycarbonate which he fixed using a seal of sanitary silicone, his is fixed to the wall using 75mm coach bolts so its as steady as a rock. The doors do leave a little to be desired though.

Thanks Colin, do you know if it comes with a 'back', I wasn't sure from the description in the ad & I want one I can just put against a wooden fence (not quite as tall as the plant house) not a wall, it sounds as though it's fairly lightweight though so if I got one like that I'd probably have to find some way of fixing it to the fence.Into every life a little rain must fall.

Sue,
I am fairly sure his has no back it just sits straight back on to the brickwork.
And yes if it is the so called plant house on their web site it will certainly need fixing down or it will become just another blow away.

If I could just step-in...
I have 2 Norfolk Greenhouses, they are the 'Standard' type, NOT the 'Ultimate'. The difference is that 'Ultimate' ones have polycarb panels which blow out, fall out, and are generally not very stable (although fixing the panels in with silicone does make a difference). The 'Standard' ones are covered with UV stabilised thick polythene which comes on a roll. It's put on in lengths over the top of the frame with 'tails which are then either buried in trenches, or weighed down with paving slabs. I have used both methods, and the greenhouses are very stable.
Yes, they are a bit of a pain to put together, mainly because the instructions aren't that brilliant. However. My non-DIY OH managed to construct both the 6x4 and the 6x12 without murdering anyone. It took a day to put the frame up, and a day to put the covering on. Pics of the big one on my profile.
So please, can we stop with the Norfolk Greenhouse bashing? Or at least point out the difference between the 2 types?Last edited by SarzWix; 22-03-2011, 10:01 PM.

Sarah,
Who's bashing anything we wern't even talking about a GH but an entirely different article. The plant house has no back fact not bashing. The plant house is polycarbonate and the panels will need extra fixing fact not bashing. The basic construction is OK but as it is light it will need fixing fact not bashing.
And in my opinion, note opinion the doors leave a little to be desired. That is not bashing it is fair comment from someone who has great experience in the construction industry.
I have never seen a Norfolk GH so I would not comment on their construction and suitability for purpose.

PTD, the comment wasn't directed at you. If you do a search on this board for 'Norfolk', you will see the responses which are standard to any mention of them or any of their products. I'm just trying to give a positive view of them, as that's the experience I've had.
