  • How long for newbie to assemble greenhouse?

    Hi
This is my first post as a complete newbie, but I have been taking advice from here for quite a while now. So, my first question is:
Could anyone give me some idea as to how long it would take my hubby to assemble my 6'x8' Simplicity Classic (from the Greenhouse People)? We already have the flag base down, so just need some idea as to how long it will take to build the frame and put the toughened glass in.
    Thank you all in advance.....
    Regards Anne

If the base is ready and level I see no reason, assuming no serious snags, why more than a days work is necessary.

It took 2 of us nine months to build a Norfolk plastic one

It took a man (from the Greenhouse People) one morning to build my Baby Rhino

I would imagine most greenhouses can be put up in a weekend by a reasonable diyist. The w-clips are the most painful bit! I put up my Gardman polycarbonate over a weekend and they werent long days at all (probably a day and a half at most).

Thanks for the info everyone. Hubby has booked 2 days off work, plus has the weekend, so hopefully I'll be moving all my seedlings out of the house, into the greenhouse shortly. Can't wait, I'm very excited (sad or what)!!!!

I don't know if you already know this, or if it's in your instructions, but before you glaze it, check it's square.
Measure diagonally from corner to corner, and then measure between the other two corners. If the numbers match, it's square. If not, pull the corners with the longer measurement towards each other and re-measure until it's square.
The glass should go in easier that way. (In fact, I'm told that non-square greenhouses can lead to glass breaking - I dunno about that though.)

            Are the flags level?

Not being square doesn't affect the walls but the roof panes won't fit squarely if the walls aren't square.

Mine isn't exactly square - there's a bit of play in terms of glass panes -> frame but at the end of the day I was so sick of it I just wanted it up so thought sod it!

Yes BigShot the flags are level and will make sure the frame is checked for squareness, before the glazing goes in. The GH has just been delivered this morning and will start to be built tomorrow. YIPPEE!!!!! Thanks everyone, will let you know how long it takes us.......

                    Enjoy the jigsaw!

Chris - there's a lot to be said for "sod it". Sometimes it's a mistake, but other times it jets the job done so you can move on. Haha.

AP - yea, level /even flags for the walls, squareness for the roof.

I agree as long the base is sound and square a days work should do the trick. I'm hoping mine takes not longer than that anyway!

Hi Everyone, we are absolutely cream krackered.... Started this morning around 9am and within 15 minutes realised the 'instructions' were wrong, they must have changed the design or something. Anyway my hubby managed to fathom out what needed doing (the jigsaw) LOL and didn't stop all day, except for coffee (which I kept making him) :-)
So 10 hours in total, bolted to the flag base, but the auto vents have yet to be fitted.
Just need to fill it now...... Good luck Mr Salty with yours!
