Ventilation Q's

Green house ventilation ...
I bought a second hand EDEN 8’ x 12’ ... just assembled it on weekend.
Couple of questions on ventilation ....
It has 2 x 24” square window vents, and that was all the previous owner had in place.
I also have the Louvre vent, which has never been fitted .... (but no glass)

Is it worth fitting a Louvre vent ? .... I guess if I do, it would not make any difference whether fitted on rear or side ?

Secondly is it worth buying the automatic window openers ? .... and if so, anybody got a view on which ones ....

They range from £18 to £40 ... all fit same size windows ... so are the more expensive spring ones better ?

Do I need to fit one on each window ? (not intending to fit to Louvre)

hi, if you work and cant get to your greenhouse on a day when the sun makes a suprise visit then i feel an autovent is a must. the only down side i have found is that if you get a warm windy day you spend all your time in work worrying that its ok. i also think that there is good use from a low fitted louvre as it allows a flow of cool air once the roof windows are open.
cant help with whick vent to get as mine came with the second hand GH and i can see any name on it.

I agree, definitely go for an auto-vent. If you can afford it, go for the louvre too - if temps get too high in a greenhouse, it can damage the flowers/pollen and really affect your crops, plus air-flow helps to prevent botrytis (grey mould). Just as importantly, remember to sort out some shading too, whether that's netting rigged up, or just shade paint applied.

Brand of auto-vent - we had a B&Q own-brand one and it lasted 1 year before the wax leaked out of it. We've had a Hall's brand one for 2 years and it's still working now. So, I would say go for the best you can afford

I agree, definitely go for an auto-vent.

At this time of year it can be 6c or 7c over night in my greenhouse but as soon as the sun hits it the max temp shoots up to 20c and the auto vent opening the window and that's by 7.30am.

I would say, defo for a Louvre vent, close up at night, open 1st thing in morning.

I'd say the autovents are a must if you work full time. I'd also deffo fit the louvre and even think about an auto opener for that as well.

In my 6' x 12' I have 2 x windows with autovents and 1 x louvre with auto opener and still think I couls do with more.
