  • How much sun does your greenhouse get?

    Hey all,

Any advice will be a great help.

I am hopefully going to be buying a greenhouse in the next week or so. I was wondering how much sun everyone get on their greenhouses? Where mine will be positioned it will get a hour or so in the morning then more sunlight from around 2-3ish. WOuld this be enough for seeds to germinate and develop?

    Cheers

I cant really advise too much (im quite new to growing) but my greenhouse has no direct sunlight til 11-12 then its full sun til it goes down!
I shade half the roof and some of the side panels in the full summer heat otherwise its too much in there!

Mine's in full sun from sun up to sun down - during Feb /March I still get problems with green algae and poor growth due to low light levels

Right now though, everything's taking off, I can't keep up with the planting and potting on

The tip of mine gets sun from an hour or so after sunrise(it rises up over a mountain - i'm in a "basin"), the gh is on the east side of my house - so until about 5/6pm it's in the sun.

Boiling in there mind, almost fried my seedlings! 42C yesterday!

Thanks all so do you think that will be enough sun for seedlings to grow?

Mine gets sun all day, so i just keep an eye on ventilation, g/h door left open so good airflow.
Toms well waterd, & any seedlings kept moist.

At this time of year my GH gets the sun from about 7-30am to 2-00pm it is also shaded on 2 sides and my seedlings have no problem.

I do have shelving at high level to lift them up to give them the best opportunity.

Mine in the back garden gets the sun for an hour or so in the morning and then shade til about 2 as it goes round the houses and trees, then sun again from about 2pm. Things grow okay at this time of year and through the summer, although they do tend to lean a little towards the light.

Is that the only position you have to put it in?

My greenhouse is a lean-to on a southwest facing gable end. Sun started hitting one end of the GH at 09:30 this morning. From this time on the greenhouse will get direct sun, when it shines, until sunset.

You are supposed to site the spine East to West with your bench facing South. Hope that helps! You may need to shade Southerly windows.
