  • Probs with glazing new greenhouse

    Can anyone help?
Almost finished building 8x6 greenhouse but have a glazing problem with one side of the roof.
All glass is in except one roof, side with skylight.
But the glass won't fit this side - it appears to be slightly off square, not by much but enough.
    Any suggestions

William, first thing check the frame work for square if you purchased the glass with the GH this is more likely to be the problem.

If that's the case - and bearing in mind the based is concreted in, and the gh erected and glazed excepting the one roof side : any ideas about remedies ?

First check exactly what the problem is, measure the glass and if you have a square check with that as well on all 4 corners. If thats OK check each individual glazing square the same way.

An easy way to get a clue is to measure diagonally from corner to corner of the main frame these two measurements should be the same. Once we know what the problem is we can have a think to find a way out of it.

I've just checked the diagonals, and they differ by about 1.5cm on a length of 103cm. All the glazing went in fine, apart from this side of the roof. I think I may have to try to trim the glass by a small amount

The corner with the longer dimension needs lifting & packing by approximately half the diagonal dimensional error bud

              Spot on BB.

As to trimming the glass removing anything less than about 1/2" wide is difficult, it can be done but you would need glass pliers/snips as well as a wheel cutter. I would try everything else before going down that route and many years ago I used to cut glass on a pro basis.

There may be a slight variation in the pieces of glass. Measure up those of the "same" size and try swapping them around.

Is the frame tightened up? Despite it being heavy, I left mine loose- then pushed one corner to get my final piece in... I made sure it was square sfter and no pane was under stress!
