Timing for peas?

At the end of my GH bed, after all the winter veg, I popped a very short row of peas (Carouby de Marsanne - think they are sugarsnaps or mange-tout?) back in early Jan...

They are about 4ft high now, going up a bit of netting, but only 2-3 flowers so far! I wondered when they might fruit - I really need the space for my tomatoes!

Any thoughts? Was it a poor choice of variety for very early peas under cover?

It's only just warmed up, give 'em a chance! I have pods on mine already, yours won't be much longer. You won't be putting toms out yet though? Maybe another month?

My polytunnel ones are just starting to form pods (from a late Jan sowing inside and planting out in Feb) but the mangetout that were sown and planted out at the same time are producing loads now, just picked a second punnet in as many days. Now that the weather has warmed up they're really getting going so hopefully yours will too.

Well, fingers crossed last frost is early May which is a week and a bit away! the toms are already out in the greenhouse in their small pots on the staging, and they are getting quite "long" (oops)... So I'd planned to put them out not next weekend but probably the weekend after?

We're still eating the lettuce, asian veg, cabbage and leaves from the greenhouse bed, though most of it is well bolting (the GH has been up to 36C so not surprising!)...

What I'll probably do is put the "longer" toms in in 2 weeks where the cabbage etc is, and leave the peas - then there are 2 varieties of toms that are only just started (took 3 goes at germinating) so they can have the pea space when they've grown up

Timing is hard!! Is this a weird spring? Lots early sun and heat, no rain for weeks??

thanks! I think perhaps I should have chosen an earlier variety - these are only to have some fun, before the main ones outside come along <grin>

I'll recheck the sowing date - and keep fingers crossed, and be more patient!!
