  • Red slimy circular mould on earth in Greenhouse.

Hi I am new to this my first question! Can anyone give me some advice about some slimy mould that has appeared on my french bean pots in the greenhouse. I have used toilet rolls inside pots to give extra height for the roots. I have used proper seed compost and everything was growing just fine. My french beans are till looking very healthy about 6-8 inches tall but the top of the soil and the toilet rolls on the outside have been covered with circular red mould / fungus which is slimy, especially on the cardboard and very dense. What am I to do with this. It does not seem to affecting the plant yet.... has anyone else got this problem? and what can I do to eradicate it. It has appeared just over the last two days, I have never had this in or out of my greenhouse before. Your help would be very much appreciated. Best Wishes

Perfectly normal on loo roll tubes, I haven't found it affects the plants

You can avoid it by microwaving the tubes for a minute before you fill them

Dear Two-Sheds, thank you so much for this information. I was really worried that I was going to lose all my beans, because it does look quite invasive. I am new to organic gardening and this was the first time this has happened. Thank you again for your help.

You can also avoid it by wedging your loo-roll middles in the 24 cell modules that fit into a seed tray - this gives an air-space around each one. No mould.
