  • Shading ??

Ok .. recently put up my Greenhouse ... growing well underway.
Been told I need to think about shading.

If I buy material, is it normal to apply on 'inside' with clips into the frame, or draped over outside and tied down ?

Also any views on product ....... plenty of people selling green shading mesh, but also seen a white material:

    Welcome advice.

Think it may depend on the greenhouse build. I might be wrong but looking at my own, there would be no way i could attach the shading on the inside. for that reason i went for the paint to shade mine. Not pretty but very effective and covered within 5 minutes.

Most greenhouses have internal channels into which you can insert plastic fixings for shading materials.

I use net curtains that are attached across the ridge on the outside then if its comes dull they're drawn to one side.

Shading is more effective on the outside, to stop the sun baking the glass. I've got this stuff, and although expensive it is brilliant. You can probably knock something similar up?

did you buy the blinds ... they would cost me more than my greenhouse did ?
I can buy teh green material for £17 ..... a 2' blind on the website is £66 I would need 6 of them

i watched with great interest last year when next door put up large trampoline,as there are 5 kids it took about three months to wreck the 6 foot saftey net which i comandered as it was about to go in the skips.perfect for shading,,,and free....fine mesh and very strong....although next doors kids would disagree.wonder how many of you now are eyeing up your neighbours trampoline net!!!!!!!

Every year I paint "Coolglass" on the sun facing sides in April and brush it off in October.

I use green netting stuff that I bought form B&Q (or similar) about 10 years ago. It goes up tied to a wire in the eaves and the top of the vertical and then clipped to the channels between. Works brilliantly, stays nice and clean as it's inside and they way it's going will last for ever. No idea how much it cost but can't imagine it was very much.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Assume you have it right to top of roof section - inside of 'ridge' and then to a second wire ruinning across top of vertical side wall (which I normally think of as eaves)

Which is way my thoughts are going ... does it impeded teh windows opening at all or not ?

Thought about putting bamboo across bottom edeg, so I could roll it up if required ... bit like a roller blind.

Did you use the half round plastic clips ... or the spacer peg/clips ?

Argonaut, I did what you are describing with the bamboo canes but they were a bit light and when we had a breezy day the whole thing tended to become a bit un-stable and the canes were banging against the glass and blowing away.
I have used curtain wire to stretch the net across the outside of the greenhouse and have pinned it down to the guttering with clothes pegs and find it works very well.

I've done the same thing Bramble but also have curtain wire going along the base.
