  • Grape Vine

I have been offered a grape vine ... assuming I grow this in the Greenhouse, and train it across inside ridge.

If this is practical, what size of container should I use.
There is no option to grow in ground either inside or outside so it has to be container grown.

Secondly - is gp compost (I use Vitax Q4) OK, or do I need to add something to it (Lime, sand etc.)

Vines can grow quite big if you let them. I have one in the ground outside, and a couple in containers outside too. Personally I woundn't grow inside a GH unless your GH is mahoosive as once it gets going you might find it takes over!

They grow quite well in poor soil, so I'd suggest mixing in some gravel, normal soil and perhaps a bit of compost.

Maybe I could use a container outside .... how big should a container be ?

There is no option to plant in ground ... not that soil is poor, there is no soil .... it is brownfield site (railway sidings - made of steel work slag) it's toxic and does not drain.
Neighbours have dug metre sized holes and planted shrubs - dead within a year ... whatever leeches into the hole is not good.

I built raised beds for all growing and they work fine.

I suppose I couldplant in raisee bed .. but prefer to use them for Veg
