You might want to reconsider leaving it - water droplets on the leaves and on the fruits act as magnifying glasses and can cause scorch marks!

I have a large polytunnel and everything is in the soil - everything every year (except for two designated onion beds. I used to grow only cukes and toms for my old veg box scheme and they never came to any harm with constantly being grown in the same ground - the ground was treated every winter to a heavy mulch of well rotted FYM which was rotavated in in Spring

For the first time, I have a couple of Gardeners Delight in pots, and all the Sungolds and Cucumbers are direct into the soil.

I overdid it last year and the greenhouse was stuffed and everything was in pots, so I used to water copiously and in the end I got Botrytis which claimed large amounts of my hard work.

This year everything is a lot less humid and they are all quite strong with ample flowers.

I do however have a flagstone path up the middle sitting on black weed control mesh - this was an error as its like a Youth Hostel for slugs.

I think I may have accidentally overcrowded mine this year, i'm really hoping the air flow keeps high to keep moulds away. I have removed all lower leaves in a bid to increase airflow. If I remember later I will post a pic.

Glad I read this as that was my plan. What's best for a greenhouse path then, flags directly in the soil?

That's what I have done this year and haven't had any problems with them.
