  • Cleaning the greenhouse as Summer ends

Well today I have started to remove end of life tomato plants in the greenhouse. All those little tomatolets will not grow and ripen before end growing season anyhow. Four removed so far out of ten plants. I'm leaving the peppers and cukes which are growing on or up staging for the moment, the remaining tomato plants have substantially sized/ripening toms on them; they will also stay. But I am already trying to factor in when to call it a day and start cleaning/repainting the interior of the greenhouse. I painted the exterior in the very warm spring but the interior needs a spruce up.
Anyone else getting ready/thinking about it?
If I have a greenhouse left that is in these gale force winds.

It wont be a while yet for me I've just looked at my notes from last year and my greenhouse wasn't clear of toms, cucs and peppers until the 20th October then it had a quick clean before i planted my lettuce in the borders for eating over winter.
    Location....East Midlands.

Mine are still fruiting, but slowly, so I'll probably leave it till the beginning of october to call it a day.

Removed loads of leaves and side shoots off my toms, got rid of 1.

        Was wondering the same myself

Started defoliating the tomatoes, removed one of them (PW French black that had botrytis). Bloody Butcher is nearly finished, so that will be coming out soon. Sungold and Gardner's Delight are still going strong so they will stay for a bit.

Mine's nowhere near ready for emptying. In fact, with the chillis & the toms, I reckon it's near its peak!

i've started clearing mine of the tomatoes that have finished, but still have peppers and beans. And have just planted out loads of lettuce. But it does look odd without the triffid tomatoes !

I've started clearing mine. Mainly tomatoes. They didn't do too well this year as I tried to put too many plants in and of course didn't have enough light or space to do well. I'll go back to what I usually do. Red spider mite had taken hold of the cucumbers so have removed lots of leaves. Would a Sulphur candle kill these off? Never used one before just washed out with *****. Would need to do on a cold day to ensure auto vent doesn't open as couldn't face disconnecting it as I always get in a muddle with it.

I always use a sulphur candle after scrubbing down with ***** but not until your greenhouse is empty of plants; or is that what you meant?

Was thinking of removing the sun shade paint from the outside now the sun's strength has died down but then argued with myself that the paint probably helps keep some of the heat in the greenhouse. Would love to know if i am right or not?

If it was me, I would take it off as it's blocking your light. I'm sure it doesn't help with heat retention.

I've only ever done scrubbing down - and yes I did realise plants needed to be removed before intoxicating them.
