  • Oooooo I'm getting one!

After many years of 'making do' I steeled myself this morning and filled in the order for a poly-tunnel with all the trimmings, staging, heating and shade netting. Just got to post the order and wait so watch this space.

If anyone is interested have a look at SERRES TONNEAU and it is a 4 seasons
3mx6m. I also think that I may have come up with a cunning way of fixing gutters to it.

keep us posted on this please cos I've been thinking about one too altho they are extraordinarily expensive.
Do you need to get consent de construire (planning permission) for one?

I have often thought of trying to find a cunning way to mount gutters on my tunnel but never finished the thought process. As a starting point, I have thought of simply using plastic guttering fixed externally using the strong repair tape the tunnel manufacturers offer. Everything would need to be really dry when fixed and of course the levels would need to be established and marked beforehand. Do let us know if you decide to do anything as there is tremendous surface area available for collection of rain water.

Google Chromes translation service is fantastic - it automatically translates the French to English, not perfectly mind, but much better than I'm able to do so!

Yes thet are expensive but the quality is very good and it seems that you will pay nearly as much for an inferior one. A friend has one that she inherited with the house and it must be about 12 years old and the plastic has only just shown signs of splitting.

As far as I am aware you don't need permission to put one up but this changes in each commune.

Check our Duronal's posts about how he put guttering on his poly tunnel - similar way in which AP suggests..

My plan is to use conventional guttering and support it on wooden posts and then use some kind of flexible 'pipe' over the top of the tunnel attached to the gutter. I have ordered some extra plastic and the glue that they sell for repairing the plastic. This I will cut in strips and stick one side to the tunnel and the other side into the gutter so the water runs of the top into the gutter and then into a but of some sort. I will have to wait and see until the tunnel is up before I finalise the design and also visit the local DIY shop to see what they have by way of thin flexible piping. The water pipe I use for cloche hoops is too heavy.

Well it's here!!!!!! Arrived without any trouble but the lorry couldn't get anywhere the house so it had to be transported the last bit un the Volvo. Always knew why I had a big car. It was so heavy that we had to unpack it to get it out. All the metal is now lying on the patch where it is to go and the bed has to be extended a bit to take it. More digging!! It came with very good instructions for erecting it but it still looks like a jigsaw puzzle. I will make a start on it today, weather permiting. Will post photos later.

Hi, over here in the Haute Vienne, there are several of us with polytunnels. from First Tunnels. They have been great - all posted to us here in France. We have helped each other put them up. Ours is 15ft x 8ft. We put it up in spring and so far have grown - tomatoes, chillies, melons, peppers and courgettes, in it, along with some basil, radishes and other bits. We have also used it to start off most of our veg.
First were our choice as they have videos on You-tube to help with the installation, and they have hany accessories and a variety of sizes.
Would recommend them heartily. Now about to stock up with our winter supplies.
