It's OK VC. At least the cover wasn't torn to shreds. The cost of replacement parts was less than the excess on the house insurance.

My greenhouse is a lean-to, bolted to the garage gable end and concrete base in more than the recommended places. It’s not going anywhere. I still lost a 4mm toughen glass panel back at the beginning of December. But that’s nothing compared to want happened to the poly a week later.

sorry to hear your tunnel was damaged,altho im new to growing ect i can guess your tunnel looks like a haygrove 1 of the toughest around,at least the cover wasnt ripped as they cost more than the frame.it sucks when you loose a greenhouse to mother nature.good luck with the repairs :-)

I feel really lucky, only the roof panels off one greenhouse. Some on our site were ripped apart.

This roof has leaked for four years and we've kept putting off fixing it ..... don't think we'll get away with that this year

Thanks Pagan. Yes it is a Haygrove.
Two things I like about the haygrove design; the cover is a kind of rip-stop, so tears don't propagate. The other feature is the ability to release the cover, which is want I had to do when I replaced the damaged parts.
Polytunnel now back to the correct shape and waiting for the sun to return.

I thought I'd got off lightly - the plastic cover on my Norfolk was completely shredded, but it had already been damaged by vandals and was going to be moved/recovered anyway. (See pic)

But when I went yesterday to do some stuff, I found 4 panes out of the glass greenhouse, caused by the considerably lesser winds of Wednesday night 2 of them have stayed intact though, so could have been worse...

My boyfriend bought me a greenhouse for Christmas (just gone) & I was so excited to assemble it we managed half on Boxing Day. Then the high winds came Boxing night & it's now laying in our conservatory

The base is still there but there are no holes in it to screw to the flags underneath.

Also, it's polycarbonate & needs clear silicone to secure the panels in place. They look far too flimsy to me. Any advice on other methods of securing?

Hi Choccy,

The stuff you want is Dow Corning 794 glazing sealant. Purpose made to bond wood, aluminium and polycarbonate. If you struggle to get it try Screwfix.com they have 3 branches in and around Merseyside.

Found a shed door on my plot on the lottie at the weekend. Looks to have snapped off the top of my Dabinett cider apple tree - it's only been in since March 2011 and it's a maiden so I needed to lop the top off anyway to make it bush out a bit, so I can just make a neat snip and it will be fine. Had a wander round the immediate vicinity and couldn't see a shed without a door, so god knows where it's flown in from!!

Anyone out there missing a shed door?? If so please come and collect it or I can arrange postage at reasonable rates!!

Sorry to hear your Norfolk got trashed SarsWix. Mine surivived the winds reletively unscathed, only losing the window panel.

How are you going to re-cover it? Can you buy the polythene from Norfolk Greenhouses?

Am starting to rethink reglazing in polycarbonate though!!!

If you reglaze with polycarb, make sure it is well secured with silicone or something as the w clips are pretty naff IMOA, I have 3 horizontal canes on each of my panes as I was sick of losing them. Polycarb tends to bend and bow in the wind.

My three blow aways predictably blew away last year, so I replaced them with a small steel version fastened to the wall. It's still fastened to the wall, but most of the panels blew in. I'm leaving it that way until spring!

Yes, if you ring them up they will sell you the polythene-on-a-roll. I think it was £19 a roll, and I'd need 2 rolls for the full 12ft. I'm hoping to replace it with a polytunnel for my birthday though, so the Norfolk will be split into 2 6x6's and half of it going to my lottie neighbour. So it will cost each of us £19, and a bit of timber for a door frame, which isn't too bad

BTW, mine has stood for 5 years without much bother, it's only after some idiots punched a hole in it and the wind got into it that there was a problem.
