I don't need to keep mine warm (nor do I want the expense) ~ I just keep certain plants in it only when the temps are suitable.

without sounding rude your missing the point
im trying to keep the warmth at night even in summer when the temp can drop not by heating it as such but by using the power of the sun eg using say black stones that during the day will heat up then
at night slowly releace the heat

Do you mean hot stones that have been heated or hot water bottles or bottles filled with water (heated or otherwise as an insulating layer). Or are we talking about Stones Ginger Wine?
Stones Ginger Wine would keep you warm but probably not the green house. If you have a way of heating stones at no extra expense, say in front of an open fire that you use anyway, then I would think that could work if the space would accommodate them. After all our ancestors used to heat stones on a fire then plunge them into water to heat it. However it would probably cause a lot of condensation which causes other problems.
Creating heat is expensive so probably best created at source. I don't have a greenhouse but if I did I would go with nature and accept the seasons. Maybe use bubble wrap and fleece. If I was trying to grow exotic species I would invest in an economical specialised heating system for a greenhouse.
Have I misunderstood your query?

Hot horse poo all around your greenhouse.
Failing that if you live in Oz and have solar power at this time of year, then black stones might...?Last edited by VirginVegGrower; 11-01-2012, 08:18 PM.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Here are two methods you could try. I like the beer cooler GSHP system, but will try painting the wall of my lean-to black first.
