Yes 3.5x4 pure luck that it fits so well. And the structure is all plastic hoops

The netting looks quite fine so would stop cabbage whites. I can see it actually offers protection from wind, storm and tempest as well as birds and butterflies.... (Why's it bright turquoise, what's the advantage of that?)

It is basic debris netting.......I think you can buy it in many colours. No advantage

Fruit-cages suffer from snowfall... does the paperwork say anything about that aspect?

Recommends remove any snow ASAP. We hardly get any here. None at all last winter.

You've planted directly into soil because next season you rotate it to a different bed? And easy to dismantle and re-assemble...?

    Yes. Yes

Hmmmmm, time for serious thought.... Many thanks.

That's really useful, Newton, thanks. As I posted those questions to you last night I sent a copy to the company and they (impressively!) have replied by return so I'm copying their note below:

      "Hi B,
the net needs to be light in colour, the reason being that vegetables
don't like too much shade it makes them bolt.
The wonderwall instructions describe how to add extra support so that it will
take a few inches of snow. Our own wonderwalls took the weight of 4 inches of
snow easily and when it melted the net needed just a little tightening.
The net is in three pieces,2 sides and a top we do say in the instructions to
remove the top net if you don't grow in winter or if snow is forecast and you
have not added the extra supports. Your idea of replacing the top net with
      pigeon net sounds ideal.

I hope this answers your questions sufficently, what gardening website do you
      visit? Thankyou for your enquiry.
      Regards,David Dance."

I'll introduce DD to Grapevine....! bb.

How is your wonder wall doing now Newton? Have you had a lot of produce and how has it stayed up to the winds we have had this winter?

            home made" wonderwall"

I have recently started to build my own at a budget price.. I bought a roll of scaffold netting 50m long and 2m wide for £26. and some carbon fibre tent poles for £15.. the base frame is second hand decking with some metal tubing fixed to it to take the tent poles...
all I need to do now is make the ends... I also attached guy ropes from an old tent.. the whole thing bends in the wind and as long as the guy ropes hold, I don't recon it's going anywhere !

BTW.. I still have 40m of netting left so that makes the cost so far £31.50

I have just put mine up, so am looking forward to my first season of trying it out. Do you think it will hold off the carrot fly?

Cost me just under 200 but I hope it will last years.......and my rent is only £14.00 so I don't mind the expense. I can't wait to grow a load of brassicas as last year my netting ability was lacking somewhat.

I will let you know it goes.".
I have just read you have the Walk-in Wonderwall and wondered how did you get on with it? Is it warm with the netting? Would you buy another or is a polytunnel with polythene better? I have the chance of buying one second-hand (new) is it worth it?

                  Thanks

They are 2 different structures GG used for different reasons. It all depends what you are wanting to grow. Wonderwalls are a protective structure for the likes of fruit & Brassicas & are not meant to get warm whereas Polytunnels are just a large greenhouse IMO.

Don't think you'll get a reply from Newton as last visited The Vine in November 2013. You could try a PM though.

                        Walk-in wonderwall

Has anyone got a Walk-In Wonderwall, if so, how do you get on with it. I have a chance of buying one second-hand and wondered is it equivalent to a poly-tunnel?
Any thoughts please let me know.

                        Thanks

I've merged the 2 Wonderwall threads, Garden Goddess, as you've asked the same question on each one.
From the lack of replies, I'm guessing that very few people have tried a Walk-in Wonderwall.!!

OK, Thanks. I did read the other links, but as it is an old thread I thought there might be some updates.
