this is what happens when i get bored
waiting for the garage to ring telling me to collect my car after its mot so i am sat at home twiddling my thumbs . i was thinking the other day about my toms going leggy when started early on the spare bed window cill (how can i overcome this) this is what i came up with a cheap solar powered garden light poundland special canabilised and stuck on top of a cheap plastic propagator these lights switch on automaticaly when the light subsides, but will it work what it as done is give me a good reason to sow half a dozen tommie seeds for the trial and relived the boredom

You need to give them DAYlight, which is of a certain lux (strength) and spectrum. Just putting on any old light won't do it.

Daylength is increasing all the time now: sow them when the days are longer, rather than in mid-winter

I have used the energy saving type light bulbs over my onion plants and they work fine. If you want to use led's you will need to have a mix of red and blue led's. You can buy them as GU10's so you may need some fittings for them. Something to ponder for next time your car is in the garage.

SAD fluorescent lights are the bees knees when it comes to propagating your seedlings in dank and dark northern climes! I even like to stand under them myself to shake off the winter blues

i'm using 6400k daylight R80 screw in bulbs in some unused floor stand lamps i found in the attic, work fine and no heat generated so no need to ventilate and can get them quite close

                Northern climes ????
But your location is SW London.

Maybe I need SAD lights for the summer.
