Fish tank as propagater/mini greenhouse.

Hi,

I have a 60L (W 2' x D 1' x H 1') fish tank I'm not using any more. could g8 be used as a propagater/mini greenhouse?
If so, how could i do it?
Do i put seed trays in it? or Can i fill it with compost and sow seeds that way?
It hasn't got a lid so will i need 1

I suppose you could use it upside down to cover seed trays but watering would be awkward and also without air holes there is an increased likelihood of damping off. If you fill it with compost then you would have to be careful with watering as there would be no drainage which would also increase the chance of damping off. Perhaps place some gravel in the bottom and place seed trays on this and then get a lid that has holes in for ventilation.

i had a mess around with one last year for my bog plants even after drilling air holes in it was too hot when the sun was out , i assume that was down to the low cubic area

Last year I used one on its side for hardening off to cut down on the amount of garden to hallway trips.
Placed it on its side so it became front opening and sat it on a pallet, but bubble wrap over the back top and front (back held down with a brick) and tucked the front bit under the pallet wedged with another brick. During the day lift bubble wrap to the back for ventilation and should it rain it didn't get inside.
I found it so useful I'm doing it again this year.
