To String or to Cane...that is the question !

So what do most of you folks do to support tomato plants in containers (or bags) in the greenhouse?
As this s my first season with a greenhouse, do you think I should maybe experiment with both methods?
Any "support" you can give me, is much appreciated!!!!!

I use canes since a disaster with string. The whole lot collapsed

I do both, depending on how many canes I have left from sticking them in the garden first....

I do both too - where possible I tie string round the storm bracing in the polytunnel and twist the plant up there. However, the first year I secured the string to the root ball and they all rotted at ground level. Since then I also have a 4' cane into the ground and then tie the string in below the first leaves. Works well and less chance of piercing the plastic cover of the tunnel. In my greenhouse I use canes for toms but support climbing vines (cucumbers, melons etc) on wire which is tied into holes in the aluminium frame.

I normally use canes but will probably be using string supported from the roof bars in the greenhouse attached using cropped bolts.

I have a 15mm x 100mm plank running from end to end of my GH bolted into the frame work. This has holes drilled through it to support my canes and at this time of year doubles as a handy shelf lifting my plants to take advantage of maximum light.

I use a similar idea to Colin, I only tried strings once but gave up and went back to canes.

I use canes and string.

Canes horizontally on hooks and string from the bottom of the plant being tied into the canes. Then one string to each plant and wind it round as it grows.

I just use string, I find it easier and less likely to poke my eyes out.

I started off tying the string to tent pegs in the compost, but now I just tie it to the tomato stems (carefully, but they're very forgiving)

I use canes and string, canes to support the tomato plant and string running horizontal and tied to the greenhouse to support the canes in two or three places.

Ditto! but I fasten the bottom of the string to a stone..

Blimey 2Sheds you must be tall, I am 6`2" and would have difficulty with 6` 6" canes.

Mine grow through the staging with the trays removed. I use canes attached to the staging. Also string to support all the side shoots that I overlook and haven't the heart to remove. Do not follow my example!!

Quite, I'm 5'10" and use canes taller than I am. No string for me. The canes go up through the gaps in my high shelf and sit nice and firm against the greenhouse eaves.

Save on the string vc, take the sideshoots off & re-plant them.......more Toms......
