  • Renovating a greenhouse

    Hello to all!

Would appreciate any advise here; I've recently moved to Suffolk and been allowed the use of an old greenhouse. Naturally it's not sparkling clean but after clearing out alllll the brambles I think it shows huge promise. I've got high hopes for finally fitting my eccentric tomato menagerie and melons -but, what about all those glass panes? We've found some spares which will fit but I'm wondering how best to affix them to the frame? The current panes are held in with putty and z-clips where they overlap and I'm not very bothered about appearances, but if I can save time and avoid sticky messes by using some other type of clip that I'm not aware of to hold in the vertical panes, so much the better! Many thanks grapes! X

Lucky you with such a wonderful greenhouse. I'd use a silicone type fixant and small nails or glazing pins to stop the glass coming out sideways. If any of the timber is rotten, repair it now rather than later.

You can also stick a nail or a glazing pin under the top pane to stop it dropping rather than using z clips.

Looks like aluminium frame so nails aren't going to work are they?

The Z clips aren't that expensive and very easy to fit along with the W clips.

I find clear weatherproof tape used for mending glass very useful for small bodges and mending broken panes..

Lovely greenhouse. Envy. (But only when you've done the hard work)

No help from me - just wanted to say well done for rescuing a rather handsome greenhouse.

I am so envious ..... but not of the work ahead of you. It'll be great when you have it up and running.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

very jealous, looks amazing, well now it does anyway.

you can get plastic replacements for the glass iirc, they would posibly be easier to attach then glass?
