I have just taken delivery of the 14*8 bronze polycarb GH from Waltons with rainwater kit The boxes are HUGE

So i'm now going to spend the rest of the week getting it put together with my wife will post pics as soon as we have some progress. Still haven't quite decided the best way of anchoring it, was thinking of using pots in each corner and along the side where the ground spikes are and concrete them into pots and dig them into the ground and the base in between on a bed of compacted gravel?

Enjoy yourselves!! You have probably thought of it already but if it was me I would make sure that every single part, screw, nut, bolt etc is there before I attempted to put it together.
How frustrating would that be to find an essential part hasn't been supplied.
Oh, and don't forget the supply of Radox!

I'd work through the instructions too by assembling a pretend greenhouse. Find the necessary parts at each step and see if you understand what happens next!

Good idea veggiechicken My wife has just finished night shift and is sleeping i soooooo wanna wake her up and make a start....but value you my life to much :P so will sit impatiently twiddling my thumbs

Congrats, whatever you do don't leave the boxes outside in the rain like I did, each part is labeled but mine started to smudge, made it interesting

Also when you start constructing the roof think about where your going to need to put screws, the rest of the frame has slots so you slide in the screws, but there is a few parts in the roof where there isn't

Edit: If your going to use gravel on the flloor, I got some sheets of insulation from b&q, think it cost me £20 for enough for my 12*8, first I put weed membrane down then the insulation, then a ton of gravel on top, the gravel gets lovely and warm (nice without your shoes on), I'm hoping it will act as an heat sink

I got a 14x8 exactly the same as yours and built it about 6 weeks ago.

My main tip would be to try to understand how the gutter goes in (which makes it really strong in the end). It kind of slides in down the side (from the end) knitting everything together, but we needed a rubber mallet (or sledge hammer and piece of wood to protect the end) to hammer the 14ft piece cos it was quite stiff. Also we needed 3 people for this (2 people to guide it, 1 to hammer). The rest can be done with 2 people.
In preparation for this make sure the 'side uprights' are fully seated on the base, and all the polycarb sheets are seated properly too.

The wall above the doors was a bit fiddly trying to fit the polycarb in. Try to get it right first time as once its in its difficult to adjust.

It was easier than I thought it'd be, and the instructions were better than expected too.

Don't forget to include a bit of a slope for collecting rainwater.

Finally just take it slow, don't rush it and miss out anything.

Oh yeah, like Urban said, don't let the rain smudge the labels!

grab anything that looks like it should be bolted together and bolt it together
cus when it doesn't go together properly
phone the supplier and ask how it should be done
ignore the missus when she says " i bet you wish you paid the man to install it for you"
have a general glance at the instructions, criticise the instructions saying theres no way that should go there and look at that picture how you meant to see how that goes together properly
have a cup of coffee
pick up instructions again
realise you have done it wrong
ignore missus when she asks if you are following the instructions yet
shout because you can't find the spanner you had just 1 minute ago
catch out the corner of your eye the missus on the other side of the garden calmly bolting half the frame together properly with the spanner you just lost
swear
walk over casual like asking if she needs a hand

Yeh wall above the door was a bit funny for me aswell, didn't think it was all going to fit together, then it all slotted into place as if by magic

We did the guttering with just 2 of us, got my gf to hammer the first one while I guided and she made a right meal of it, sweat everywhere and hitting it like crazy, I thought this can't be this hard to do

I did second one, just very light quick taps with the rubber mallet, went on easily and smooth as butter, no sweat involved

Also I put some clear silicone sealant into the slots in the gutter, I'm sure it lubricated and helped it go on easier aswell
